Alan mentions the virtual (I call it proxy) number given to a card on Apple Pay- the one that appears on statements. If the TfL system can’t see that they’re linked to the same account, perhaps this is enough to make them effectively separate accounts, but that does contradict the TfL advice. Perhaps TfL are trying to offer certainty to phone users.
