You know that there is an unadvertised grace period to the peak times from 06:30 to 09:30 which is 06:35 to 09:27 and in the evening from 16:00 to 19:00 which is 16:05 to 18:57. Off-peak therefore really starts from 09:27, does that also mean off-peak caps also start from 09:27?
Yes it does. It must be stressed that the grace period is unadvertised for a reason. It is to reduce the number of complaints that the reader/system clock was wrong. People should not therefore rely on the extra time. It could also be changed at some point in the future without prior notice, because the contractual advertised times are as stated on the fare finder.
Also, just to clarify, you know how evening peak prices are still limited to off-peak caps. With an 11-15 Zip, let’s say you do a journey from Victoria (NR) to East Croydon, the full peak price is £3.00 but the off-peak cap is at £1.70. So does that mean, in the evening peak, I can do this journey for just £1.70 and instantly hit the cap?
