No need for that, I was just wondering.

@Alan White Unless I’m missing it, there still isn’t anything relevant at https://tfl.gov.uk/corporate/transparency/freedom-of-information – the last one mentioning MJTs, as far as I can see, is your unsuccessful one back in November – and the page about MJTs in general still doesn’t have full specifics. Did they email you directly with the full data?

“There is no “default” route as such, ” ok but…

“the listed fare covers every route that doesn’t involve changing at any of the places listed.” <— that’s literally what ‘default’ means?!

“Which route would be considered default ” – that’s not what default means; there’s no one specific ‘default route’. 6.30/4.20 is what you get charged if you do this journey (within maximum journey time) using ANY OTHER route, that doesn’t OSI at Vauxhall or Elephant and Castle or the Batterseas, and also doesn’t use the LU side of a South London terminus.

    You could go:

Tolworth –NR– Wimbledon –LU– Liverpool St

    or

Tolworth –NR– Wimbledon –LU– Paddington –EL– Liverpool St

    or

Tolworth –NR– Clapham Junction –LO– Whitechapel — EL — Liverpool St

    or

You get the idea. Just remember to stay within MJT!

Your day’s travel can be completely covered by:

8.10 for a 1-2 peak cap (also covers all bus travel)
    4.40 for a 3-6 Thru extension

    Makes 12.50

The extension fare doesn’t _need_ to exactly match the fare for a similar zones+farescale _journey_, but in this case it does – for example, a journey from Pontoon Dock to Erith, which is a Thru 3-6 journey, also costs 4.40 peak.

Even though your rail journey went 6-5-4-3-2-1-2-3-4-5, just one extension fare for 3-6 covers you on the way in _and_ the way out.

    Contactless has seen that :

    * the Z1-2 cap (7.40) plus extension fares (3-6 for coming in from Slade Green is 3.05) plus the 3-6 single Stratford Int to Slade Green, with the buses covered by the cap

    is cheaper than

    * the sum of the individual fares as you’ve listed

so you get the cheaper amount. The difference will (eventually) be given as a refund to the Oyster card, assuming it’s an undiscounted adult card.
