Hi Mike I have a question: “I am commuting daily from Harold Wood (Zone 6) to Meridian Water (Zone 4). My route is taking the Elizabeth line to Stratford (Zone 2/3) and changing trains there (without tapping out) for a Greater Anglia service to Meridian Water.
Please confirm that a Monthly Zones 4–6 Travelcard is sufficient for this specific journey. Since Stratford is a boundary station and I am traveling between two outer zones without exiting in Zone 3, does the ‘cheapest fare’ rule apply? I want to ensure I am correctly ticketed if my Oyster is checked by an inspector near Maryland or Stratford.”

    Hi Jase,

I’ve split this question as it really is a new topic.

You are correct that both legs of your journey approach Stratford from the zone 3 side, but you do need to pay for zone 3. Therefore you need a zone 3-6 travelcard to make that journey without issue. Having said that, if you do try to make the journey with an Oyster card with a zone 4-6 travelcard, the system will deduct a zone 3 single fare from your PAYG balance. You only have a problem if you haven’t got enough balance to pay for that fare.

    Hi Jase,

That’s fine. The ticket seller at Harold Wood is definitely wrong.
