As Alan says, the bus and tram cap is included within whatever rail cap you might be charged. If you make two tube journeys in zone 1 and take two buses over an hour apart then you’d be capped at £7.70 rather than the £8.30 the individual fares would total.
And yes, contactless works the same way and uses the same caps.
