An interesting observation I can’t explain from early on 12/12/21 morning (using both the 11/12/21 Night Tube and the first train of 12/12/21).
I tapped in at St Paul’s at 4:20 and tapped out at Waterloo LU (Jubilee) at 6:31. I expected to be charged for two incomplete journeys – fair enough. However, I was actually charged £2.40, the correct single fare. I used contactless, not tied to a TfL account, so I have no journey history to consult, but based on the fares it seems clear that the system accepted the two taps as constituting a valid LU journey.
The maximum journey time should have been 100 mins on a Saturday or 110 on a Sunday – both well below the 131 between tapping in at St Paul’s and tapping out at Waterloo.
Any clues as to why the system chose to be merciful?
