I got my Oyster 60+ in March. While doing so I did read plans to possibly increase it to 63 or 65 but I haven’t found anything to say that this has happened yet. The discussion found was dated Dec 2021. Last week a friend, who knows someone due to reach 60 quite soon, heard that he was told that he wouldn’t be eligible at 60. Is this correct? I think he will be 60 in July. I wondered whether there had been confusion with the Freedom Pass

There are plans to gradually reduce the age range of the 60+ Oyster as part of the funding settlement by the government. My understanding is that it will start later in six monthly chunks. Once you have the card you won’t lose it, but it will gradually get later and later. I don’t know when this is supposed to start, but the TfL website still says you can apply from two weeks before your 60th birthday, so it hasn’t changed yet. I got mine last December so I’m keenly keeping an eye on developments.

You now can’t apply 2 weeks before. I tried and was blocked so I rang TFL and was told that it was now 10 days not 2 weeks. I tried again 3 days later and it worked. They still haven’t corrected that.
21/05/2023 at 20:14 #4923MikeModeratorYou’ve reminded me, I also had that issue 2 weeks before. I phoned them up and they said try again the next day, which worked. I also suggested they change the website. One day!

A friend of mine who was 66 last month also had ticked the box but his details were not passed on.
On hearing this I contacted the helpline to be told they had no record of my wishes but at least I know now that it is in hand.
Just a nudge to anyone approaching 66 to check around 2 months before to ensure details are correct also it has been a while since I had rung the helpline is now a 45 minute wait on the phone the new norm.27/05/2023 at 04:27 #4934MikeModeratorThanks Malcolm,
I also ticked the box, but I’m several years away from finding out if it worked.
