Yesterday I travelled from Cambridge to Debden via Tottenham Hale and Stratford. For CBG to SRA I had a NR ticket, so needed to use Oyster for Stratford to Debden. The interchange route by tunnels from the Greater Anglia platform to the Central Line didn’t have an Oyster card reader as far as I could see. At Debden there were no staff at the entrance so I’m afraid I slipped through the barrier behind another passenger. On the way back I found myself taking a different route between platforms at Stratford, which took me to the main entrance hall. Again, no Oyster reader on the inside of the barriers so I had to leave the station tapping my Oyster card and re-enter using my NR ticket.

If I had changed ‘tickets’ at Tottenham Hale, would I have had to leave the station and re-enter in both directions there too? Is there a better way to do this?

I have had similar issues changing between NR tickets and Oyster at other stations including Finsbury Park and Farringdon. It seems that passengers arriving in the Oyster area from outside and wanting to travel on within it are not catered for well.

    Hi Antony,

Yellow readers are positioned at some key points within Stratford, but it can be easy to miss them if you’re not sure. There are a couple at each end of the platforms shared between Central line and Elizabeth line trains. There are also some on the way to the Pudding Mill Lane DLR platforms, and there’s one in the Jubilee line concourse against the wall.

At Tottenham Hale you would need to exit and re-enter, although most people doing that will be switching to the Underground and you have to go through both gatelines to do that anyway. Farringdon has validators at various points between the Thameslink and Underground platforms, as well as a couple near the top of the escalators down to the Elizabeth line. Finally, at Finsbury Park there are several validators in one of the subways under the NR platforms. I think it’s the higher one, but I may be wrong.

Yes it’s the higher subway at FPK

    Edit: Thanks, Adam. (Mike)
