I’ve been meaning to write this for a while but there have been some changes to the caps for people using the discount bus and tram photocard.
The Oyster card attached to your photocard now caps at the weekly rate of £12.30 Monday to Sunday when using buses and trams.
Previously it would charge £2.55 a day and not cap at the weekly bus pass rate.
The weekend hopper caps at just one 85p fare on Saturday and Sundays meaning it’s actually a lot harder to get to the cap in August!
Finally, the £2.55 cap is retrospectively applied when you get issued with the photocard and apply it to your Oyster.
I discovered this out last time I renewed my photocard as you can’t apply for a new one until the old one has expired.
So basically once your photocard expires the Oyster returns to normal fares currently £1.75 per bus journey in an hour.
But when you get your photocard that £1.75 goes towards the £2.55 daily cap even though the initial journey was charged at full rate.
So your second journey that day will be 80p and you will be capped for the day.
Hope this is of use.
