    Hello

Here’s the history of my journey:

    10/11/2023

    11:19 – EL/GWR
Farringdon (EL) – Windsor & Eton Central (change in Slough to GWR)
    £9.50

    16:29 – GWR/EL
Windsor & Eton Central (GWR) – Tottenham Court Road (change in Slough to EL)
    £9.40
“This journey was cheaper or free today because you reached an All Services Daily cap.”

    19:05 – Tube
    Southwark – Angel
    £0.00
“This journey was cheaper or free today because you reached an All Services Daily cap.”

How that price capped to £18.90 was calculated?

I’ve been trying to find such a cap as £18.90, but I couldn’t and I have no idea what kind of cap it is.
Sadly I couldn’t find any tables with cap prices between TfL and GWR. I found a table with cap prices between National Rail and TfL, but there’s no Windsor station mentioned.

    Greetings
    Jacek

    Hi Jacek,

It’s going to be a combination of a zonal cap (1-2, 1-3, 1-4 etc) and an extension fare for each direction from that zonal boundary to/from Windsor. I’m having trouble understanding how they are working these out, and I’m waiting on a response from TfL after a trip I made to Marlow. I think it’s going to be an error because the cap should be £19.20.

If you click on the link in your journey history relating to the return journey from Windsor where it says “Contact us about this journey” you could ask them to explain how the cap was calculated, and whether there were extension fares involved.

    Hi,

I received an answer from TfL about this fare calculation. They just said, that it’s “WNC to [U1] NR only Off Peak £9.50” fare, which still says nothing to me. I can’t find that fare anywhere on TfL’s site. Assuming that £9.50 is one way fare, it’s still £19.00 both ways, not calculated £18.90. They didn’t say anything about extensions or caps calculated. I believe that the fare was calculated correctly, but I’m curious what is this mistery fare applied.

    Greetings

    Hi Jacek,

I’m getting a little further with my own query which is currently with GWR as they set the fares and cap extension fares for all the branches off the Reading mainline. The problem is that no-one seems to want to publish what the cap extension fares are.

I am intending to take the matter up with either London Travelwatch or Transport Focus in the new year because the unpublished nature of the extension fares means it’s impossible to check that you have been charged correctly.

Keep an eye out on the site.
