It came up on RFUK that the default peak PAYG fare from Greenwich (NR or DLR) to St Pancras NR is quoted as £3 (TfL zone 1-2) whereas Deptford to St Pancras NR is £3.20 (NR zone 1-2). A £3.20 fare from Greenwich doesn’t appear as an option on the TfL fare finder or your fare finder, but it does show on BRFares as the PAP fare type.

I wonder why this is. I think Greenwich’s validators do not distinguish between whether one is touching in/out for DLR or NR, but surely someone arriving at St Pancras low level NR must be assumed to have travelled on Thameslink and therefore be charged the NR fare table?

    Hi Thomas,

Journeys on Thameslink between Elephant & Castle or London Bridge and Finsbury Park or West Hampstead Thameslink are charged using the TfL-LU fare scale.

The £3.20 fare shown on brfares is incorrect. Sadly this is not an unusual problem as there is no direct link between the fares database used by brfares and the official TfL PAYG database used to actually make the charges.

From Greenwich there is no way of knowing whether the passenger went via Bank, Moorgate and Farringdon (TfL-LU) or London Bridge NR (NR1) so the cheaper fare is charged.
