Given this entry in TfL’s published OSI list (https://tfl.gov.uk/corporate/publications-and-reports/out-of-station-interchanges):

Type: PAYG OnlyDoes anyone know why (contrary to the advice given by gateline staff), if you tap out of the NR gateline to refill a water bottle and then tap back in say 3 minutes later, it breaks the journey?
This led to a 127% overcharge for me on a recent trip from Erith to East Croydon (splitting an off-peak journey at £5.20 into two journeys, one off-peak at £5.20 and one peak at £6.60) which I had to call TfL to get resolved.
They still haven’t resolved it properly: their bodge was to simply refund the £6.60 charge for the London Bridge to East Croydon journey since the fares from Erith to East Croydon and from Erith to London Bridge are the same. This leaves me whole fares-wise, but without an accurate Contactless statement for the journey segments between Erith and East Croydon (which were themselves part of a longer through NR journey), which I need for both delay repay and expenses purposes.

Yes, it only works between two different gatelines, specifically any main concourse gateline and any upper concourse gateline from platforms 10-15. My OSI page explains that.
It’s primarily so that people arriving at the front of trains into platforms 10-15 can exit through the upper gateline and use the escalator down to the lower concourse (unpaid side).

TfL’s published OSI spreadsheet has a column specifically to explain stuff like that, but it’s blank for this OSI.
Perhaps Southeastern should use this site as training material for the gateline staff rather than relying on what TfL say, so that they won’t misinform passengers that the OSI will work if they leave and re-enter by the same gateline?
And maybe the OSI should work for same gateline re-entry given people changing trains might want to use the toilets or the water fountain or M&S or any of the other shops/outlets at ground level on the unpaid side?
