although TfL don’t publicly admit the existence of outside Oyster Zones 10-14 (and beyond for contactless), capping is available for all stations beyond zone 9.
I spent like 30 minutes chatting with TfL, and they told me there are even subzones.
All fares below include Zone 1. Weekly capping is available for Contactless only.
There’s an exception in terms of Zone 11. Different caps apply for Oyster and Contactless (except 11a), and for different stations.
There are subzones of Zone 13, but they are used for single fares only. Daily capping is always the same.
Oyster + Contactless stations
Zone 10 (Watford Junction*, Grays): £23.50/£18.90/£94.60
Zone 11a (Broxbourne – Hertford East*, Hertford North, Bayford): £25.30/£19.50/£101.60
Zone 11b (Radlett): Oyster £25.30/£19.50; Contactless £25.80/£16.80/£101.60
Zone 11c (Potters Bar): Oyster £25.30/£19.50; Contactless £24.80/£15.60/£82.70
Zone 12 (Shenfield*): £31.40/£21.10/£122.20
Zone 13 (Merstham – Horley): £33.00/£21.10/£112.20
Zone 14 (Gatwick Airport): £33.10/£21.10/£122.20
* TfL Travelcard available
Contactless only stations
Reading branch of TfL Rail (GWR fare extension beyond zone 6)
Luton branch of Thameslink
Radlett is in Zone 11b, different caps apply for Oyster and Contactless
St Albans City £29.70/£22.90/£116.60
Luton Airport Parkway £37.70/£28.40/£138.30
Welwyn Garden City branch of GTR
Potters Bar is in Zone 11c, different caps apply for Oyster and Contactless

Thanks for this. The Oyster caps for all the zones (inc 10-14) are available on my fare finder. I’m aware of the contactless differences for Potters Bar and Radlett. I do intend to show caps on the fare finder for the contactless only stations eventually, but it is complicated by the fact that if both ends of the journey are beyond zone 6 then a cap will apply but an extension fare will also be charged if that cap is reached.
What is interesting is that your conversation with TfL didn’t seem to mention Epsom or Cuffley. I know that they are in zone 9 for capping purposes, but this fact is supposed to be kept quiet because the weekly travelcard to zones 1-6 is much cheaper than the zones 1-9 version.
Can you tell me whether this was the normal helpdesk you spoke to, or did you get to speak to a specialised member of staff?03/02/2021 at 18:07 #679
no worries… 🙂
I don’t have anyone at TfL to speak to, I used the 0343 222 1234 number and after some time I got connected to someone.
PS: I don’t understand this: “if both ends of the journey are beyond zone 6 then a cap will apply but an extension fare will also be charged if that cap is reached”, what do you mean please? 😀03/02/2021 at 20:15 #680

What I mean is that the contactless only caps are between the outboundary station and zones 1-6. If you travelled from Dartford to London, did some other journeys on the tube, then went to Slough and back and finally back to Dartford, you’d be charged the cheaper of:
03/02/2021 at 20:30 #682
- Slough cap and two singles between Dartford and zone 6
- Dartford (zone 8 cap) and two singles between Slough and zone 6
Okay, thank you, makes sense… 😀03/02/2021 at 20:34 #683
Is it then possible to reach Daily Cap for all PAYG scheme?
Maybe only capping for 1-14 and then extension to Reading, Luton AP and Welwyn GC?03/02/2021 at 20:44 #684
In terms of Epsom and Cuffley, I didn’t ask about this as I knew they were in Zone 9.

It’s certainly possible to cap to zone 14. Without doing the sums I don’t know whether the cheapest extension combination would use Gatwick as the outboundary cap or one of the others.04/02/2021 at 07:44 #691
Ok 🙂04/02/2021 at 18:22 #695
Sorry, what I forgot to mention is that Broxbourne, Hertford East, Ware, St. Margarets and Rye House do offer weekly capping EXCLUDING zone 1 at £78.10.
