ParticipantHi Mike,
My Oyster card has been overchaged for a journey yesterday.
I touched in at Willesden Green, touched out at West Hampstead (Underground) and re-entered at West Hampstead (Overground), and touched again at Highbury & Islington (Victoria line standalone reader) with the intention to end my journey there, as I switched to a National Rail ticket for travel to Royston.
However, it didn’t close my journey, but instead, started a new journey.
What did I do wrong?

ModeratorHi Michael,
That’s a mystery. You’ll need to get onto the helpdesk for that, and push them to explain exactly what happened. The bit I really don’t get is the summary line “09:31-???? Willesden Green to [No touch-out]” when the only touch beneath that is the entry at Highbury.
Let me know what they say.

ParticipantI will wait 48 hours and contact TfL if the issue is not resolved automatically.

ParticipantMy thought/question is did the touch at HHY continue the existing journey (rather than start a new one)?

It’s a possibility, though not what it should have done. Let’s see what TfL come back with.

ModeratorOk, I’ve recreated this tonight, so it’s definitely not something you’ve done wrong. I’ll also be chasing up a refund.

ParticipantI tried the reverse journey (touched the platform reader after alighting a Great Northern train, changed at West Hampstead and exited at Willesden Green) the past weekend and there was no problem.

ModeratorThanks for that, Michael. It may have been fixed now. I did try checking out some other variations and decided that it may have been a faulty validator. I ran out of time to check each one on that platform and couldn’t get back to it.
