    I have just noticed that, according to the fare finder, touching the pink at Whitechapel for an off-peak journey Upminster – Richmond will increase the fare from £3.80 to £3.90 despite that Zone 1 has been avoided.

    Whilst changing at Whitechapel avoids zone 1, it also involves NR between Clapham Junction and Richmond, so I think the fare is correct.

    But is it allowed for a pink reader touch to INCREASE the fare? I have thought that it can only decrease the fare, not increase it.

    That, Michael, is a very good point. Whilst I can see why it does, you’re right, TfL do say that a pink reader will never increase the journey charge. I’ll ask some questions.
