Has the Stevenage OSI gone live yet between platform 5 and the main gate line? The Great Northern website is still recommending not to use contactless when changing at Stevenage platform 5.
It’s interesting given ITSO passengers (KeyGo and tickets loaded) make use of this transfer a lot without issue – I know it’s a bit different, as break of journey is usually permitted for those tickets
I’ve recently been in correspondence with GTR regarding paper tickets from Hertford North to Luton and wondered whether contactless can actually handle it. Both paper and contactless are priced at £13.80 off-peak.
GTR have confirmed that the paper ticket is not valid via Stevenage despite the route via Stevenage / St Pancras being the fastest by 22 minutes most of the day. The only permitted routes are via Gordon Hill (either Finsbury Pk./ St Pancras or Highbury & Islington / West Hampstead): going via Stevenage requires two separate tickets, costing significantly more. The contactless fare doesn’t specify the route so am I correct that travelling via Stevenage using contactless, now the OSI is live, would trigger that £13.80 fare?
As things currently stand, yes. You touch in at the start and touch out at the end using any intermediate gatelines as required. The system will look at your whole journey and charge the appropriate fare given any route indications.
If appropriate you can also go via Kings Cross and St Pancras. Just bear in mind that PAYG is NOT valid on LNER services, so don’t try and sneak on one of the set down only stoppers.
