The new fare table has been published and most of the fare increase has been placed on journeys outside Zone 1, while the increase for peak hour journeys to/from Zone 1 has been suppressed. A single-zone, off-peak journey outside Zone 1 will increase by 10%. TfL did the same last year as well, resulting in outer London travellers paying for the most of the extra revenue generated by the fare increase.
As a result, I have reduced the number of short Overground journeys I take as the fare I pay is no longer worth the short distance I travel.
Why can TfL get away with such extortionate increases for outer London fares (in the absence of a non-Zone 1 cap), while trying to improve the transport in outer London? How can we place political pressure on it to stop such practice in future years?
