Quite by chance I noticed that odd period travelcard season tickets can now be ordered online for collection by an Oyster card. Previously you could only order weekly, monthly, quarterly, half-yearly and annual travelcards. Now you can specify any period between one month and one year. This is especially useful when making monthly tickets last for five weeks so you don’t pay for every weekend.

Hi
I don’t seem to be able to find any more information about the odd period tickets. Can you please tell me how they work?
Thanks
Marie
Hi Marie,
Basically a monthly ticket lasts for a calendar month. Within that month there will be between 4 and 5 weekends, but they won’t usually be at the beginning or end. If you rarely or never use your season ticket at weekends then this is a bit of a waste.
If you start a season on a Monday and buy 1 month and 2 or 3 days (depending on the number of days in the month) it will last for 5 working weeks ending on the 5th Friday. You then have a weekend without a ticket and start the next one on the following Monday. If you have a weeks holiday coming up then you might buy one for 6 weeks before taking 9 days without a ticket. You can also work some bank holidays into the mix for bigger savings.
Each additional day costs 1/30th of the price of a monthly ticket so you are still paying the same rate. With careful planning it’s possible to get a years travel for about the same as an annual ticket without the need to pay upfront.
