Kentish Town Internal NR-LU Link Update

Three months on from the re-opening of Kentish Town Underground station, the walkway within the paid area between the Underground and National Rail platforms is still not available. The latest estimates suggest early May for completion. Until then you have to exit through the gates from the Underground station, walk down the street a few yards, and touch in on the validators at the night entrance to the Thameslink National Rail station.

Sadly this creates two journeys where normally one would be charged, and the difference can be as much as double the price. TfL have stated that anyone overcharged can call the helpdesk and receive a refund of the extra paid. A site user has reported that after getting refunds without question, they have recently been refused, saying erroneously that they’ve been charged correctly. I took this up with TfL who assured me that refunds are available, and I tried it myself and succeeded in getting a refund without issue.

  1. I suspect I know the answer (namely they couldn’t due to the cybersecurity incident) but surely it would have been logical to setup a temporary same station OSI to avoid the double charging?
