Most Used OSIs March 2023

We last looked at OSI usage in 2019, before Covid. Thus four years later I’ve asked TfL for updated data showing how many journeys made use of each OSI in the system. The data provided was recorded over a four week period in February/March 2023. Most OSIs are showing a drop in usage compared to four years ago which is proof that not all commuters have returned to the system. There are also several new OSIs linked to the Elizabeth line and noticeable shifts in usage at Liverpool Street, Farringdon and Paddington.

The top 3 remain the NR to LU interchanges at South London termini, and Victoria has regained second spot from London Bridge and narrowly missed out on topping Waterloo.  Paddington NR to Marylebone NR is bottom of the pile and I do wonder just who decides to use this in preference to the Bakerloo line.

The wierdest statistic is the number of people who have gone back to using the street walk between Hackney Central and Downs. Although not shown in the table, there is a worrying difference between the number of people changing EL-DLR versus DLR-EL at Custom House. This is undoubtedly down to the lack of validators near the side entrance to the EL station and I do wonder if lots of people are actually being overcharged without realising it. I’ll be following up both these issues in the coming days.

In the table below, the number is a total for both directions over the whole period. If the same station is listed at both ends then it’s an internal OSI between different gatelines at the station.
