New OSI (Bond Street) and Same Station Exit Changes

In readiness for the opening of Bond Street Elizabeth Line station on Monday there is a new OSI linking it with Oxford Circus Underground station.  This will provide a link between the Elizabeth Line and the Victoria Line, and an alternative interchange to Paddington for the Bakerloo Line.  The time allowed is the usual 20 minutes in either direction.  Whilst this is possible from the Jubilee Line exit from Bond Street, the recommended exit to use is the new Hanover Square exit which is about five minutes walk from the nearest entrance to Oxford Circus. A new map page will be provided in due course, but at the moment Google maps wants you to take a pointless two minute detour.

Several recent experiences have suggested that some of the details in the Same Station Exit page have been changed.  The changes are sumarised:

  • If you exit within two minutes after entry and then re-enter the same or a nearby station within 45 minutes (without using a bus/tram) then the maximum fare is refunded and a new journey started. Previously this only worked when using gates, but now it can be either validators or gates.
  • If you touch the same validator within 30 seconds then the second touch will not count. An Oyster card will display Error 42 (Passback), but a contactless card will just silently ignore the second touch.
  • As a side note, if you wish to end a journey and start a new one immediately at a validator then you need to wait 30 seconds.  If there are two validators nearby then using a different one means that you don’t have to wait.
