I’d like to apologise to subscribers who will have receieved several notifications of new posts in recent weeks which were not genuine posts. The unusual method of signing up, requiring a response to an email, has been enough to keep the forum pretty much spam free for several years. However, it is clear that some bots have got wise to what is needed and this is not going to diminish again. Four days ago I switched on a spam checking service and so far it has intercepted 17 spam posts successfully, with nothing getting through. Hopefully that will be it.

I’m seeing a new spam posting method on a few threads in the last week or so.
The thread appears to have a new post from a new member, but when you go and look, no new post exists. If you look at the members bio page, however, it’s the usual advertising nonsense in there instead of in the threads themselves.
Thanks for this, Feathers. Looks like replies aren’t being properly intercepted. I’ll take a look.
There’s some evidence that this is happening again – top two threads in the current forum list don’t have sensible replies and are linked to a suspect forum account.
Thanks. Now deleted.
And there’s more, both full on posts an signature in nature.
It’s happening again with this mentoca bot/guy
Cheers Andy,
I wish I could work out how the spam catcher is falling over on these posts.
