UPDATE 4th September: The issue is now fixed and NRE no longer suggests contactless fares are available.
The National Rail Enquiries journey planner has started suggesting that contactless PAYG will be available for travel to Stansted Airport from this Sunday (September 7th). The fares appear for stations on the line between Liverpool Street and Stansted Airport, including via Stratford, as well as from many Underground stations.
TfL have confirmed that the Stansted extension of contactless PAYG will not be happening this weekend. The limits of acceptance on Greater Anglia remain Shenfield, Broxbourne and Hertford East. Greater Anglia’s social media team also believe that nothing is changing this weekend.
However, unless something is done to remove these fares from the Journey Planner it is likely to cause confusion, and potentially more anger, when passengers are confronted by revenue staff at the airport. There will presumably still be obvious signage at Liverpool Street and Tottenham Hale, but what about other intermediate stations. Remember that National Rail Enquiries claims to be the definitive source of information about travel on the rail network.
I understand that the Rail Delivery Group and Greater Anglia are currently discussing how to roll back the problem caused by some erroneous fares data being fed into the live system.
