    Hi,

I have a travelcard on my oyster card and for some reason yesterday (16th Feb) I was erroneously charged for a bus journey – the other 3 bus journeys and one NR journey (within zone) taken yesterday were £0.00. I only knew about this when I subsequently unsuccessfully tried to go through a NR ticket barrier at Victoria Station, so I topped up with £1.50 to remove the negative balance to enable me proceed on my NR journey.

Obviously not a huge amount of money, my question is will the “system” eventually work out there was an erroneous charge and credit me with the £1.50 or will I have to call TFL to get someone to do it manually?

    Thanks.

    Hi William,

I’ve not heard that one before, and I’m struggling to work out how it might happen. My best guess is that there was a date mismatch on the bus and it didn’t recognise the travelcard.

I don’t think this will automatically get picked up, so I’d advise calling the helpline. I’d be interested to hear their thoughts on how it might have happened. Also, unless you’re happy to have £1.50 tied up on the card you can ask for the refund to be sent to your bank. It depends whether you regularly use PAYG for out of zone journeys or not.

    Hi Mike,

Thanks – yes it’s a weird one for me as well – to be fair it’s so rare that it’s never happened before in all the years I have used the oyster system. Thanks for the tip about getting the refund to my bank as opposed to just sitting there on the oyster card. Will come back with any info they give.

    Best Regards

    Hi Mike,

Refund into bank account duly organised but the person handling the call did not know either why it happened and put it down to a “glitch”. Cheers.
