ParticipantHi,
According to TFL’s Single Fare Finder and the Fare Finder on here, the peak fare between Stratford and Canary Wharf EL (changing at Whitechapel) should be £1.90, as it is when travelling between Stratford and Canary Wharf on the DLR or the Jubilee line.
However the Elizabeth line journey actually charges £2.10, and I’m unable to determine why. Is there a simple explanation that I’m missing?
Thank you

KeymasterHi,
No simple answer that I can see. Can you copy in full journey history for the day in question?

ParticipantThanks for replying Mike.
This is a snippet of my journey history, from contactless.tfl.gov.uk, showing 2 days with journeys on the EL and DLR with the different fares:

ParticipantIt looks like the March fares were charged from the EL earlier than they should’ve been.
The new peak fare from is £2.10 on both the EL and DLR.

ParticipantHi Martin
I don’t think it’s related to the March fare changes, as it seems to have been the case for well over a year (and followed the same pattern before the fare rises last year – i.e. 20p “premium” for EL).
e.g. taking a random day from my history with the same journey profile over 6 months ago:
I’ve asked TfL on a couple of occasions why it’s happening, but after the initial response to say they’re looking into it, I get nothing back.

ParticipantAlthough saying that, looking further back to a random point I just noticed this example where the charging appears to have been correct on one of the days. The only difference is that on that day coming home I walked to Poplar and got the DLR from there, rather than CW. But that shouldn’t make a difference, should it? The zones are the same.

KeymasterI think it’s likely that the error crept in last March, unless you have any history to prove otherwise from beforehand. I have asked what happened, but my usual contact was away last week. Still waiting for a response. I also tried it out off-peak and the correct fare was charged, so it looks like just the peak fare was wrong. Hopefully it will have been fixed this morning, though do reply back here if it hasn’t been and I’ll chase it further.

ParticipantDid the morning DLR and evening EL combination again today, and the difference is still there even after the fare increase – i.e. it’s now £2.10, as expected, on the DLR vs £2.30 on the EL.

KeymasterI’m calling the helpdesk right now and they are puzzled. There is definitely something strange going on.

KeymasterTwo things. That April journey history was an off-peak Friday which proves that there was 10p difference off-peak as well. It must just be the railcard off-peak which was the same, or maybe it’s Oyster vs contactless.
The other thing I’ve sent you an email with some specific details for the helpdesk.

ParticipantThanks Mike that’s very helpful, will take a look and follow up on here. And yes good point on the April fare being a Friday, didn’t spot that at the time.
