Hi,
I travelled South Woodford- Heathrow on the Lizzie but I’ve been charged as a partial Heathrow Express trip, presumably because I came out of a different gateline- £13.30 instead of £5.60. I can’t prove I didn’t change at Paddington- will I get a refund?
Come to think of it, there’s no touch-in at Paddington on my journey history (because I didn’t go there- just Stratford-Whitechapel-Heathrow), so will this help me?

Heathrow T2&3 (Elizabeth line / Heathrow Express)23/08/2023 at 10:15 #5060Mark DunnParticipantNo reply needed- seems it’s the correct fare via zone 1 since the government chiselled more money out of TfL. This was kept a bit quiet. Hayes & Harlington £5.10, Heathrow £13.30. And we though we’d found a shortcut wheeze. Ouch. Oh well, back to the Picc.

£5.60 is the fare if you’d used the underground all the way and swapped to the Picadilly Line on your journey.
A good way to save more money on this trip would have been to get the Picadilly Line and split your journey at Hatton Cross – tap out and then come straight back in again.
As Hatton Cross is in the Heathrow Free travel zone so you would avoid the Heathrow premium and pay nothing for your trip from Hatton Cross to the terminals. So sadly, you’ve not been overcharged but remember that the £13.30 counts towards the daily cap so if you’re making a return trip you won’t pay more than £14.90 for the day.

It’s only since they took our peak over-60 travel away that we’ve had to bother anyway. So the government has its dabs on that as well!23/08/2023 at 11:33 #5063Jon MillwoodParticipantIts not “the government” charging more, its Heathrow Airport, they own the tracks and charge TfL and Heathrow Express to use them.
23/08/2023 at 12:15 #5064Mark DunnParticipantIt’s a fact that the government forced TfL to remove the off-peak fares.
23/08/2023 at 14:24 #5065Jon MillwoodParticipantYes but that isn’t the cause of the price differential between Elizabeth line and Piccadilly line, that is due to the track access charges.
The government did insist that TfL charge peak times at all times to Heathrow as part of the funding agreement, but it could also be argued that is sensible business practice as the travel patterns at Heathrow are different to standard commute timings.
