I got overcharged yesterday by 5p on a journey from Hertford North to Stepney Green (via Moorgate). Single fare finder quotes £6.50 (Oyster with NR railcard), I was charged £6.55. The same happened on the return. Is this a system error, rounding error or have they put the fares up?

    Hi Adam,

Something appears to have got out of step. I’ve asked for clarification. The SFF (and our fare finder) is supposed to reflect actual fares charged, so it shouldn’t be wrong.

Edit: You could call the helpdesk and see if they can explain, and/or issue a credit.

    Update:

Some railcard fares have been increased slightly thanks to the new policy by the Rail Delivery Group. See https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cpw8j4d1v2do for more information. Usually the single fare finder data would be updated at the same time, but the cyber security incident has delayed that.

To close the loop on this, TfL have refunded me the two lots of 5p difference.
Having made other journeys the rounding change seems to be pretty random – for example a zone 1 tube fare stays at £1.75 while a zone 1-2 fare increase from £1.80 to £1.85. It throws up a few anomolies where touching out and in and splitting a ticket can be beneficial. For example Hertford N to zone 1 tube is now £6.55; tapping in and out at Moorgate is £4.75 + £1.75 =£6.50
