As we head into 2023 I notice that not much has been posted recently outside the forum. So, to rectify that, here are some general items for the coming year.
As is now normal, the January fares revision has been moved again. This year it will take effect on Sunday 5th March. Previously it was the 1st of the month, but maybe this caused problems last year as it was in the middle of a week. Whilst National Rail fares are expected to rise by 5.9% on average, the level of TfL increases has not yet been announced. Caps and travelcards are likely to match the National Rail rate.
Sadly strikes are continuing to play havoc with peoples travel plans with virtually a complete week of different strikes starting tomorrow. This doesn’t directly affect the Oyster system, although if you need to take longer to complete a multi leg journey you might end up being charged for exceeding the maximum journey time. It’s a good idea to check your journey history regularly, and report any overcharges so that they can be refunded.
Finally for this post, look out for expansions in the number of routes and stations accepting contactless PAYG on National Rail. There are no details as yet, but I hope to have news shortly.
