    Does anybody know how paper tickets on the Elizabeth Line within London are priced?

    For instance, I’m seeing tickets from Canary Wharf to Whitechapel for £6.70 which is of course extortionate compared to the Oyster/contactless fare of £1.90/1.80. But a ticket from Canary Wharf to Heathrow costs £11.20, so less than the £13.30 fare using Oyster.

    Basically, I’m just trying to understand when to use Oyster and when to buy a paper ticket when travelling on the Elizabeth Line. Is there any logic to follow here?

    Hi Peter,

    Can you tell me where you are seeing the £11.20 fare, please. I can’t find it.

    Within zones 1-9 the EL fares are set by TfL and are the same as used on the Underground. Cash fares are significantly more expensive to try and push most people to use PAYG.

    Fares to Heathrow EL stations include a supplement charged by the airport who own the tracks between Airport Junction and the Terminals.

    Hey Mike, I was just looking on Trip.com:
    Elizabeth Line to Heathrow fares

    But yeah, strangely these don’t appear on nationalrail.co.uk so I’m not sure what this fare is exactly.

    In general, I suppose the rule is that paper tickets would be more expensive than PAYG, thanks!
