Help! I am traveling up to Hatch End by car but then need to get to Putney Bridge by train on Saturday 9th june by 10 am. and return to Hatch End early evening (some time between 4 and 6) My sister has an oyster card which she says I can top up and use, would this be my best option or a cheap day return,I am also very confused by the zone thing and changing at london stations as I live outside the area.
Hi Jane,
Sorry for the delay replying. The usual simple route for this journey is blocked by engineering works on Saturday. Oyster will be the best option. You’ll need to take Overground from Hatch End to Euston, a short sign-posted walk to Euston Square Underground, then a tube to Edgware Road and another tube to Putney Bridge.
Hi ,
I need to travel from West Croydon to Hoxton Rail station daily for work. On the Overground (7am return 6.30pm) is it cheaper to get a weekly travel card on Oyster or should I use my contactless daily? Is it true the cost weekly would be £49? Thank you
Hi Tashia,
West Croydon is in zone 5 so the weekly travelcard would be £58.20. I would use contactless for that because unless you make some other journeys you won’t reach the weekly cap.
Hi Mike,
Thanks for that but how much would it be if I use contactless?
Hi Tashia,
My Oyster Fare Finder says that the peak single fare is £4.70.
Hi Mike, thanks for all the help much appreciated!
Hi mike, I need your help. Am planning to take on a job in Southgate. I stay in Hounslow Central. I need to know how much I should pay monthly for this fare. Will be leaving Hounslow between 6:30am – 7:00 am and return between 4:30pm- 5pm daily Monday to Friday. Thank you
Hi Eestellah,
The peak single fare is £3.90. If you touch in at Hounslow Central before 0630 you’ll only be charged £2.80. A monthly travelcard isn’t worthwhile unless you make additional journeys outside of your commute. It’s even less worthwhile if you can start your morning journey early most days.
