TfL have announced that from Wednesday March 30th there will be a new option of a £10 auto topup. The threshold for updating remains £20, but you will have the option of topping up by £10, £20 or £40. If you are happy with your current settings then there is nothing you need to do, but from Wednesday you can log in and select the new £10 amount.

I do not really understand why anyone would use a higher-top up option, other than to possibly have a longer auto-top-up transaction history on the TfL website which seems to be qty based or possibly fewer transactions on their card statement.
I have found that even if I start with a negative balance, and a journey is greater than £10 and still leaves me with a negative balance after the first journey I am still able to travel.
If you travel a lot then I would certainly see the advantage of topping up by a greater amount. I do check off all transactions on my credit card statement and too many identical amounts could be confusing.
