An Email from TfL

I’ve just received an email from TfL about Oyster. I’m presuming it was sent because my card is registered. It’s a real shame that they couldn’t have sent a similar email in December 2009 alerting everyone to the new Oyster Extension Permits. This could have saved so many people from falling victim to those not-very-nice management people at South Eastern who are still imposing penalty fares at their London terminals. I reckon there will be

Shock – some people will miss OEPs!

There are just 25 and a bit days to go until the OEP is consigned to history.  Most of those who have heard about them will rejoice that they can finally use their travelcard enabled Oyster properly again, just like they used to before January 2010.  But, it seems, there are a small number of people who

OEP Countdown

Just for a little fun I’ve added a countdown to the end of the OEP above the menu on the left.  As it started there were a little over 50 days remaining.  Yes, that’s just 50 more days for Southeastern to fleece some of their most loyal season ticket holders for the crime of not … Read more

South Eastern still targeting OEPs

In a day over two months time the OEP will be no more, but this is not stopping South Eastern from making a fast buck.  They are blatantly targeting people who are about to have the correct fare for their journey deducted from the PAYG balance on their card.  And these are people with travelcards stored on their Oyster card, often expensive annual ones.  The phrase “biting the hand that feeds you” springs to mind here.

OEPs to be scrapped

Following a summit at City Hall with the Mayor, TfL and the London TOCs a number of improvements to travel within London have been announced.  The best one is that the Oyster Extension Permit will be killed off from 22nd May 2011, just over 16 months since it’s introduction.  Other measures include

Important change to OEPs

Note: This post is now irrelevant as Oyster Extension Permits have been abolished.

I’ve just become aware that there has been a very serious change to the way OEPs are handled.  It definitely affects Southeastern and may well affect other operators as well.  Originally the system was set up so that if you didn’t set an OEP but nevertheless touched in within your zones and touched out outside your zones then the system would work out what you should pay and deduct that, exactly like it does on the TfL operated Underground, Overground and DLR.  However, now it seems that exit gates have been programmed

OEP should really be OTEP

I’ve decided that TfL have got the name of the OEP wrong. It should actually be called the Oyster Travelcard Extension Permit (or OTEP). This would avoid the first confusion where people think it extends the oyster system so that they can travel beyond oysterisation into the home counties. It still won’t help with the … Read more
