DuncanParticipant
To David,
I have also had this experience too you know but in a different location. I was travelling to Leicester Square (zone 1) from North Greenwich (zone 2). I went to Canary Wharf, did an OSI to the EL station and went to Tottenham Court Road and then took the Northern line. As Canary Wharf is in Zone 2, it had charged me the peak fare there when tapping out. Just like your situation, when I tapped out at Leicester Square it had STILL charged me the peak fare. I don’t know why this is happening tbh.
I have also made a post on this which is titled ‘Zone 1 peak fare charged in the evening peak’ where Mike has already replied to my post as this was made earlier. If you want to go and check that out you can do that too. Or wait for Mike to reply here anyway.
DuncanParticipantTo make it more clear, let’s say your balance is at £3. You make a Z1-6 journey which costs £3.60 (off-peak). You have £3.50 left before hitting the daily cap of £14.90. When touching out, your balance would be £-0.50. You’ve hit the daily cap. Would you still get capped if you have a negative number balance?
DuncanParticipantAnd btw, just to add on, I had also topped up once and got a receipt but then lost it, it might’ve also had my card number!
DuncanParticipantAnother thing that I need to know, does hitting the daily cap allow entry at all times, even though your card has no credit or very low credit left?
DuncanParticipantChris, my second tap in was after 6 minutes!
DuncanParticipantYes, my journey history says that I tapped in twice but that was a 11-15 Zip so is free on buses

DuncanParticipantI was saying there, if you choose to touch a pink reader when going through Zone 1, it would make no difference to the fare for that journey. Is that true?
DuncanParticipantAlso, just to clarify, you know how evening peak prices are still limited to off-peak caps. With an 11-15 Zip, let’s say you do a journey from Victoria (NR) to East Croydon, the full peak price is £3.00 but the off-peak cap is at £1.70. So does that mean, in the evening peak, I can do this journey for just £1.70 and instantly hit the cap?
