Returns from the Boundary are possible. The price is often slightly less than a ticket from the last station inside London. However in the case of Surbiton, it’s treated as the edge of the boundary for the mainline, and is the same price.

Very few machines will sell you boundary tickets. They generally have to be purchased from a ticket office

Normally you can buy a ticket from any ticket office from the TFL Boundary to Walton (NOTE : Not all machines offer this). However Surbiton is actually the boundary, so Surbiton to Walton is the same price as TFL Boundary to Walton. You can purchase a ticket between any two stastion locations from all ticket offices, and most ticket machines.

If you purchase a ticket from the Boundary to Walton then the train doesn’t have to stop at Surbiton, however if you purchase a ticket from Surbiton to Walton then the train must stop at Surbiton.

However virtually all Walton trains stop at Surbiton, so that shouldn’t be an issue.

I travel on my Freedom Pass regualarly and often down tap in at my local station, but when I get to a station with gatelines the barries will always open for me.

If I meet a revenue team on my train, as long as I’m inside zones (1-6), I never have any problems.

All Clapham Junction trains stop at East Croydon, so I usually purchase a single from Gatwick to East Croydon. If you have a TFL Freedom pass then there is no need to tap in at East Croydon, as the pass is considered to be a travel card.

Changing onto the District Line at Wimbledon, then change again on to the H&C (or Circle) at Edgware Road?

I’m assuming that your daughter is leaving Windsor before 09:00? In which case there is no saving using an 18-25 railcard.

In that case a return ticket to Slough is £4.20 a day, although this can be reduced to £2.84 per day (5 day week) if she buys a weekly season ticket from Windsor to Slough (£2.52 per day for a monthly season).

At Slough use contactless to tap the Yellow validator, and then at Ealing Broadway tap the Pink validator. When she gets to Chiswick Park she will have been charged £7.10 when she taps out.

For the return she should do the reverse making sure she taps the pink validator at Ealing Broadway, and the yellow validator at Slough. As this is outside of the peak period (06:30 to 09:30), this will be charged at £3.70.

    So £4.20 + £7.10 + £3.70 equals £15.00

As the owner of a 60+ Oyster card, you can go to any manned ticket office, where they should be able to sell you a ‘zone boundary to Slough ticket’. This is effectively a ticket from the Zone 6 boundary to Slough. This can then be used in conjunction with your 60+ Oyster, and if you run into a ticket check on the train they will accept this as a valid journey.

Living in Chessington (North), I’ve made this journey more than a few times.

At Kings Cross walk out of the station and across the plaza, towards Euston Road (look for the Black Sheep Coffee shop). Take this entrance into the Underground, and at the bottom of the stairs (IMPORTANT) ignore the signs sending you right to the Victoria Line, but turn left. If you use this entrance it’s much quicker to get to the Victoria Line platforms.

When you get on to the underground train, try to be in the 5th carriage as this is the nearest to the exit at Vauxhall.

At the top of the escalator at Vauxhall, pass through the barriers, and walk straight ahead to exit 3, which is next to the entrance to the National Rail station. Go through the barrier, and walk along the corridor, and go up the stairs to the platform. The stairs for Platform 7/8 are the last staircase from the ticket barrier.

If you tap-in at Kings Cross at 09:28 you should get to Vauxhall with 10-12 minutes to spare.

Thank you. I sort of expected that, but I didn’t want to end up doing the longer journey time, unless I was saving a decent amount of money.
